a cognitive artefact for kids reminding why we should care for our teeth

Due to Alex’s interests we decided that a computer game was a suitable solution to tell a story over time. I send Alex pictures and sketches of the game and we had many interesting discussions over the phone about how to proceed.

project x- our relation to our teeth

Since my best friend Carina is soon to be a dentist, we decided to do this project x as sort of a collaboration. I started out by taking pictures of my classmates teeth and asking them how they feel about their teeth. I was a rather interesting discussion on the part about what our teeth actually are and what they mean to us; is it an organ, a part of the skeleton, a tool?

in the brainpool today I asked the particpants to create whatever they wanted on the subject; an awareness to our teeth. The outcome was:

a wisdom tooth broach made by Bea

Katrin looked at the teeth as something growing up from the flesh that we could nurture like with a plant

Ulrika created a tooth character to care and learn from. Me and Carina has thought of this direction before; a cute character, story etc. But we will see.

project x-brainpools;

project x is an elective at Konstfack where master students form all departments collaborate in brainpools on each others project

Today we had our first section with project x, Ulrika Hägglöf wanted us to go and make stuff on the subject merging textile and the building. I got some filling that inspired me. I realized rather quickly that this was far from enough material. In the trashes I found styrofoam that I decided to work with as substitute for the material. I decided to work with the concrete stairs just outside my studio that I use everyday. Everytime I use them I think about what could happen if I fall. I wanted to add textile to this element as a safety solution. The idea is if you fall you can through yourself on the soft side of the stairs.

I placed a pillow in the corridor while tearing the styrofoam apart. It created such an interesting contrast in our superstiff corridors at konstfack that it became an installation in itself.

I was thinking what the fabric is in the toilet. The box for toilet paper feels a bit ancient to me. Decided to make paper floewers that would encourage you to use less paper.

katrin sprangers brainpool; when two materials fall in love something new happens

we gathered tons of material on the table of s6 and started to play with it

It was delightful to burn the material and see how it behaved.

but there was no real merging love happening

it looked more like a katrina storm broach; maybe this could be a way of founding money for the victims?

some small experiments

VAX and sugar reacted nicely to each other

Ulrika created a nice transistion between hard and soft plastic
